How to Books with Scribble Press

Last week I showed a small group of teachers gathered for” Appy” Hour Scribble Press. Students can write books which then can be added to your iBooks library. They can be emailed and shared in the general Scribble Press library. We thought

parents would enjoy this. For a fee Scribble Press will even make a hard copy of the book for you. That’s a great idea for grandparent gifts!

Here is one darling story, from Walter, who has been a “Thunderbird” for quite a while. I enjoyed very much the subject of his story. Getting it to this blog was quite time consuming. When we learn of an easier way I will add some more stories. As far as I know only two classes did this activity, Mrs. Miralles’ and Miss Nixon’s third grade classes. Kudos!

Needs and Wants with ShowMe

Mrs. Di Lorenzo’s kindergarten class created “ShowMe” presentations about needs and wants yesterday. ShowMe is an app on our iPads. Students can draw, add photos from the camera roll, and record their voices. We kept it simple this time, drawing first and speaking later. Here are some examples.

3rd Grade Animal Adaptation iMovie Trailers

Hurray for Mrs. Robertson! She took this project on, created her own iMovie trailer about a shark, showed it to teachers, and they loved it!

Students in third grade all chose an animal to study. They researched its adaptations, habitat, predators and prey. They noted important and interesting facts.

Next the students found photos on the Internet and, using an app called Sketch on the iPads, they cropped and saved the photos to the camera rolls. They used iMovie trailer to put together photos and important captions about their animals, using a theme of their choice. The results are fabulous!

Here is an example from Mrs. Miralles’ class. Most of the videos are too large to include here.  Video Dec 18, 2 09 00 PM

Mrs. Alexander’s Monsters

Mrs. Alexander’s Class participated in an online collaborative project called The Monster Project. Here you can see their original monsters (middle column), descriptions of their monsters, and the drawings a first grade class in Arizona drew from those descriptions. This was great practice with descriptive writing. Enjoy!
